Isn’t It Ironic

In the shadow of the Trump building in Chicago stand a statue of George Washington, and the Vietnam War Memorial. The statue depicts George Washington shaking hands with Robert Morris and Hyam Salomon — the great General, and two men considered to be the major financiers of the Revolutionary War.  Money and leadership — a winning combination.  The inscription on the base reads:

The government of the United States which gives to bigotry no sanction, to persecution no assistance, requires only that they who live under it’s protection should demean themselves as good citizens in giving it, in all occasions, their effectual support.

                                                                         – George Washington

Ironically, this is right across the street from the Deporter-in-Chief’s building.

Bet he never read that.  Bet he was never curious enough to even walk across the street and see the monument. Bet he wouldn’t understand it.

Next to the statue is the Vietnam War Memorial.  A small peaceful space right on the river. I have two close relatives who served in the Vietnam War and I am thankful their names are not inscribed on any monuments.  When I read the names that were tragically inscribed, I felt such gratitude for them and the people who loved them.  It’s a little patch of Chicago where honor and duty to country are remembered, and it’s beautiful.

…Ironically, right across the street from President Bone Spurs’ building. Bet he doesn’t know that is there, either. Bet he wouldn’t care. What did he call veterans, suckers?

Now I’m sitting in my hotel room, looking down on the statue and watching people walk past without noticing. I want to scream out the window, “Read it! Read it!”

…Ironically, right across the street from the building with TRUMP written on the side so large that you can’t help but read it.  I’m so tired of irony.  Aren’t you?
